Clinical Services

Academic Year 2022-2023

Sick Call: Cadet walk-in clinic, open Monday-Friday, from 0630-1430; staffed by the college physician, the nurse practitioner, and nurses.

Walk-In Clinic: Afternoons after Sick Call, nights and weekends; staffed by nurses. Cadets are triaged, and referred to the physician or nurse practitioner during Sick Call as needed. If urgent or emergent care is required, cadets are transported to a local hospital emergency department.

General Medicine Clinic: Monday-Friday appointments with the college physician or nurse practitioner.

Women's Clinic: Monday-Friday appointments with the nurse practitioner.

Sport Medicine Clinic: Monday-Friday (0700); muscular-skeletal care provided for all cadets by a board-certified athletic trainer.

Virtual Urgent Care: Access 24/7 via for treatment of common acute conditions (eg respiratory infections, sexual health, stomach problems)

Note: All clinic visits may be billed to cadet’s insurance.

Immunizations / Vaccinations: Available at cost to cadets by appointment.

Allergy Shots: Available Monday-Friday whenever the physician or nurse practitioner is present in the Infirmary. Allergy serum is stored in a locked medication refrigerator; allergy shots are administered by a nurse and cadets are monitored for allergic reactions following allergy injections. A small fee is billed to insurance for materials (syringe, needle, etc).

Inpatient (Daytime and Overnight) Admissions: The Infirmary has 35 in-patient beds available for cadets who are ill, injured, or recovering from surgery. A small fee is charged for linens, toiletries, etc. ($25 for daytime admissions, $30/night for overnight admissions).

Transportation: In an emergency, the Infirmary will call an ambulance to transport a cadet to the hospital. Transportation for local doctor's appointments and other routine matters can be obtained through local taxi or UBER. The Infirmary staff will assist cadets in arranging for routine transportation.

Medications: Certain prescriptions and over-the-counter medications prescribed by the infirmary clinical team are available to cadets through the Infirmary.. Prescriptions will be delivered to the infirmary for cadets to pick up. Charges will be billed to insurance.

Laboratory: Standard laboratory testing is also available. Specimens are collected at the Infirmary, then sent to MUSC lab for processing. Charges will be billed to insurance.

X-Ray: Extremity x-rays, chest and abdominal films are available at the Infirmary. Charges will be billed to insurance.

ECG: Electrocardiograms are available at the Infirmary. Charges will be billed to insurance.
